Cuisinart SS-700 Single Serve Brewing System Review

By | December 1, 2015

The Cuisinart SS-700 Single Serve Brewing System is an impressive kitchen appliance not only in terms of looks but also in its wealth of features. It is designed to make single servings of coffee, tea, cocoa or some other beverage in a matter of seconds; making use of the K-Cup by Keurig and Quiet Brew technology. It allows you to choose between five different cup options with iced beverage setting thrown in for good measure.

Chief Features

  • High Capacity Removable Water Reservoir

The Cuisinart SS-700 Single Serve comes with an extra large water reservoir. The 80 ounce (2.37 liters or 144 cubic inches) reservoir is big enough to eliminate the need to keep refilling even for those days you need a constant supply of coffee or some other hot beverage.

  • Durable Construction

Once you take the Cuisinart SS-700 from the shipping package, you will be impressed straight away by the solid weight of the appliance. Weighing in at 16 pounds, the brewing system is one of the heftiest (if not the outright heavyweight champion) for domestic scale coffee machines. One of the more conspicuous indicators of this heavy duty construction is the metal pod receptacle lever, a far cry from the fragile looking plastic version found on its counterparts.

  • Quick Intuitive Operation

To get started making coffee, fill the reservoir with water and then turn the system on. This will initiate the process of siphoning water from the reservoir to the internal heating tank. This should take approximately four minutes to complete. Before making any beverage though, it is recommended that you run a typical brew cycle with plain hot water in order to flush the system. This single flush is enough and the process should only be repeated if you have not used the system for an extended period of time.

For actual brewing of coffee or making other hot beverages, use the arrow buttons to select the size of your mug. The size ranges between 4 and 12 oz with 2 oz increases. To make iced coffee, place a tall glass with some ice on the drop tray and select the 4 ounce cup setting. The brewer then concentrates the tea or coffee to compensate for the water which will come from the melting ice.

 Dimensions

The SS-700 measures 10.2 x 13.5 x 12.1 inches, 7.8 pounds and ships in a 15.7 pounds package.

Pros

  1. Versatile beverage making options
  2. Extra large water reservoir makes the task of making coffee all the easier
  3. Charcoal water filter included
  4. Auto On/ Off feature
  5. Conspicuously large display shows either “Ready” or “Not Ready” as the case may be

 Cons

  1. While the SS-700 allows you to select different cup sizes, the K-Cups come in a standard 4 ounce setting. As such, if you want to make a 4 ounce mug of coffee, it will come out with a strong, concentrated flavor while a 12 ounce mug will be much weaker.
  2. Takes up a considerably large footprint on your countertop

Final Word

This Cuisinart coffee machine is a well thought out appliance. It will prove indispensable whether at home or in the office. With its wealth of features, durable construction and true value for money credentials, you could scarcely hope for a better gift idea to either reward a loved one or your own self.
